Joseph and I just love this family! We have taken family portraits of Jonathan, Karen, and their children a few times before and it’s so much fun every single time! It’s wonderful to see a family so close as they are with each other. We’ve shot their family portraits in a field, in the mountains, and in a city park, but the Little Sahara Sand Dunes, Utah is by far my favorite location. The sand dunes provide a beautiful and unique backdrop for a family photography session. The texture of the sand and height of the dunes adds so much depth to the pictures, making them truly unforgettable. The gorgeous natural light bouncing off the sand allows colors to really pop!
Their outfits were perfect! The white and neutral colored outfits of Jonathan, David, and Maddy perfectly complemented Karen’s flowing blue dress. I love that they chose to go barefoot for their family portraits! It made their photos even more fun.
Shortly after we began their family portrait session, it started to get really windy. Rather than get frustrated, they all just laughed. During the windiest part of the session, we took some photos at the base of one of the dunes where we were partially shielded from the wind. Their images turned out beautifully!
One of the great things about having two photographers is that while I was taking pictures of Karen and Jonathan, Joseph captured some adorable candids of David and Maddy exploring. It’s wonderful to see how well they get along!
Joseph and I love capturing the relationships between parents and their kids.
We were all happy when the wind died down just enough to go back up top.

The Little Sahara Sand Dunes is a surprisingly diverse location. It was magical how the light of the setting sun made this tree glow!
